No matter which country you are in, the ecological transition is underway and a large part of it revolves around energy and people.
We are shifting from centralized fossil fuelled generation toward decentralised renewable generation, complicating management of the electricity grid due to their variability. We are moving from one-way power flows to smarter, cleaner technologies that offer new ways to generate and manage energy at the local level. Energy consumers are more and more engaged in our shared global challenge, they can play a fundamental role becoming “prosumers”.
The EU has introduced the concept of energy community in its legislation (*) including new rules that enable active consumer participation in all markets, either by generating, consuming, sharing or selling electricity, or by providing flexibility services through demand-response and storage, enjoying environmental, social and economic benefits. The primary purpose is to generate social and environmental benefits for members and the local community.
